Project overview
Canada's Parliament Centre Block is undergoing one of the largest heritage restoration projects in North America. BIM was essential for documenting existing conditions, planning interventions, and coordinating modern systems within a historically significant structure.
What made this project complex
The building's complex Gothic Revival architecture — with irregular masonry walls, vaulted ceilings, and centuries of ad-hoc modifications — made traditional survey methods inadequate. Existing drawings were incomplete and unreliable.
How BIM coordination delivered
Comprehensive point cloud scanning captured existing conditions with millimetre accuracy. The scan data was converted into a fully parametric Revit model, providing the baseline for all renovation design. New MEP systems were routed through the model to avoid heritage fabric.
Measurable outcomes
Created Canada's most detailed heritage BIM model
Enabled precise MEP routing through constrained spaces
Reduced on-site surveys by 70% through virtual inspection
Preserved heritage fabric integrity with zero-conflict installations
